Art dinners honors New Mexican culture

Art dinners honors New Mexican culture

In honor of the 2011 Spanish Market in Santa Fe, Santera Arlene Cisneros Sena and La Boca owner and chef James Campbell Caruso have created a program pairing local artists with local chefs.

The program entitled, “At the Artist’s Table,” brings together winning chefs and Santa Fe artists to collaborate on an inventive menu exploring the diverse cultures and cuisines of the City.

“Each dinner is anchored around the wonderful festivals in Santa Fe including Spanish Market the last weekend in July and Indian Market in mid-August,” says Ruthanne Greeley, Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools director.

All proceeds from “At the Artist’s Table” go to benefit Santa Fe Public Schools and the Santa Fe Arts Commission exhibits and educational programs.

Four artists are subject of Reader’s Club

Four artists are subject of Reader’s Club

The Reader’s Club at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will meet on July 26th to discuss the work of four celebrated artists. The Club will refer to a group of essays about the lives and work of Romare Bearden, Chuck Close, Barkley Hendricks, and Robert Rauschenberg. These artists were chosen because they each incorporated aspects of photography in their lives work. The four also practiced unique techniques when printing, and making collages and portraits.

The meeting is free of charge and will run from 10am to 11:30am.

Don’t forget to read-up on these spectacular artists, and come with something to share.

Kids and parents learn about Opera and the senses

A Collaboration between The Santa Fe Opera and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum brings children ages 3 to 5 a fun learning program about the senses. The “Opera Makes Sense” program at the Santa Fe Opera shares an innovative experience focused on learning and communicating through the five senses.

The program is on July 23rd from 9:30am to 11:30am in the Pre-K Lab at the O’Keeffe Museum in Downtown, Santa Fe.

This is a chance for parents and children to widen their means of interaction and, despite their difference in age, to learn something new.

The inspiration of War and Peace

The inspiration of War and Peace

What do Walt Whitman, Robert Kry, and the Music of War and Peace have in common? They will all be presented in a discussion at The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Downtown Santa Fe. On July 18th and 27th from 8:30am to 10am the Santa Fe Desert Chorale composer-in-residence Robert Kyr will present and explain “The Music of War and Peace,” with the help of SFDC Music Director Joshua Habermann.

The presentation will include reading and exploration of texts by Walt Whitman that played a role in influencing Kyr’s work entitled “Tides of Peace.”

Santa Fe Desert Chorale premiered “Tides of Peace,” yesterday on July 7th. The show will run through august 12th.

So grab a ticket to the Chorale show, and then come to hear Kyr discuss the inspiration behind his work… or the other way around.
