Rocky Dixon is in custody after three weeks on the run after allegedly running over his mother with his truck and dragging her - leading to her death.

He was arrested Wednesday night near a home in Hernandez.

Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office received a tip and moved in on the home he was in and he ran out the back. Deputies arrested Dixon a short time later in the Rio Grande bosque.

He is being held in the Rio Arriba County County jail on vehicular homicide charges.

Questions remain in Santa Fe police shooting

A Santa Fe Police Officer who shot a man may have fired at the caretaker of a residence thinking he was an intruder.

New Mexico State Police stated Monday an alarm went off at a home on the 500 block of Johnson Ln. around 3:15 a.m.  When the Santa Fe Police officer arrived, he saw a man with a gun inside the residence and fired at him.  But neighbors told KOB Eyewitness News4 the man shot was not intruder, he was the caretaker of the home.

The homeowners live in Santa Fe part time and while they are away, they hire a caretaker to watch over the home.

“The alarm went off, he heard the alarm and knew it was one of the houses he takes care of and decided to go in and investigate,” said Joe Nero.

Rio Arriba man sentenced to 29 years for killing motorcyclist

A Rio Arriba County man convicted of driving drunk, crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting and killing a motorcyclist near Chimayo in 2011 has been sentenced to 29 years in prison.

Juan de Dios Cordova was sentenced Monday by a state district judge in Santa Fe.

His sentence of 29 years and two days was the maximum the judge could have given, Deputy First Judicial District Attorney Juan Valencia told KOB.

And because Cordova’s offense is considered a “serious, violent offense,” he will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, rather than the half-time good credit offered to less serious offenders, Valencia said.

Cordova was convicted in December of vehicular homicide, two counts of great bodily injury, two counts of aggravated DWI and knowingly leaving the scene of an accident.

Santa Fe cops get guns off the streets

Next month, gun owners in Santa Fe have one last chance to unload any unwanted firearms.

The City of Santa Fe Police Department is hosting its third and final gun buyback Saturday, Mar. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Police headquarters, 2515 Camino Entrada.

In a press release, officials said the buybacks are a way for gun owners to safely dispose of their guns and ensure they won’t be used for criminal purposes.

Visa gift cards are issued for working firearms, so participants also get the chance to earn some extra cash when they hand over their weapons.

Santa Fe historic house fire called 'suspicious'

Investigators say a blaze that destroyed a historic building near Santa Fe's plaza was suspicious.

The fire broke out earlier this month; flames shot into the air destroying the 120-year-old building.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 spoke with Santa Fe fire officials Thursday.

They said they've sent off materials to a crime lab for testing.

We're told results should be ready in three weeks.
