Court allows GOP, Demo candidates on ballot | News

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico's highest court is allowing the Senate's top leader and other candidates to appear on the ballot despite incomplete election paperwork.
    
The state Supreme Court decided Tuesday that Senate President Tim Jennings, a Roswell Democrat, and others will remain candidates although their nominating petitions failed to designate the political district of the office for which they are running.
    
A 2011 state law required that information for the first time.
    
Secretary of State Dianna Duran had asked the court to resolve several lawsuits challenging candidates so her office can start preparing ballots for the June 5 primary and local elections officials can send the ballots to overseas voters.
    
Jennings and at least nine other incumbent legislators omitted their districts from petitions submitted when filing for office last month.
