New Mexico ranks as second clumsiest state

 

If you've ever had an accident with your iPhone, you've contributed to the less than flattering national list that New Mexico recently made.

According to an article in the Santa Fe New Mexican, SquareTrade, the company that offers iPhone warranties ranks New Mexico as the second clumsiest state.

The study predicts that 30 percent to 35 percent of iPhone users in New Mexico will report phone damage in the next two years.

Fast-moving winter storm causing closures and delays

A fast-moving winter storm caused road closures, flight cancellations and  school and office delaysand closures across New Mexico on Monday.

Forecasters say the storm will continue into Tuesday and the worst may be yet to come.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 has crews all over the state to monitor the storm.

Heavy snow fell Monday in Santa Fe and Los Alamos, as well as in Grants and in Albuquerque's East Mountains. 

The snow caused Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Jemez Mountain and Edgewood-Moriarty Schools to close Monday.

Los Alamos Laboratory's main and remote sites were also closed.

The snow also caused major driving headaches and road closures.

Interstate 25 was closed late Monday morning from Las Vegas to Raton due to zero visibility and snow packed and icy conditions. 

Heavy snow and an accident closed NM 38, from Bobcat Pass to Eagle Nest. 

Monopoly game leads to knife attack in Santa Fe

 SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A Santa Fe woman has been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly stabbing her boyfriend over a game of Monopoly.

Our news partner the Santa Fe New Mexican reports police arrested 60-year-old Laura Chavez Wednesday after finding a 48-year-old man with stab wounds and bleeding heavily from his head and right wrist.

According to a probable cause statement from Santa Fe police, Chavez and the victim began fighting because Chavez thought there was cheating going on.

Chavez was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery on a household member with a deadly weapon, battery upon a peace officer and assault upon a peace officer.

Earlier this week the New Mexico Environment Department’s Drinking Water Bureau released findings that the Agua Pura MDWCA Water System located near Chacon, New Mexico detected E. coli in their drinking water samples.

The NM Environment Department issued a “boil water advisory” that advises Agua Pura MDWCA Water System users to boil their water for five minutes before drinking, cooking, washing, or bathing.

Gary Johnson goes 100 miles

The New Mexican Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson will steer away from political affairs on August 13th to participate in the 100-mile Leadville Mountain Bike Race.

The Leadville course in Colorado is at a whopping 10,200 ft, but is nothing compared to some of Johnson’s other athletic achievements.

Johnson has reached four of the highest peaks on all seven continents, including Mt. Everest, finished the Hawaii Iron Man five times, won the Breckenridge 100 mountain bike marathon in his combined age group, completed the Bataan Memorial Death March, and biked the eight-day Adidas TransAlps challenge in Europe.

Bishop’s Lodge Resort & Spa in Santa Fe is offering a new way to relax. The Lodge is offering Drum Circle sessions on Friday and Saturdays from 4pm to 5pm, to distress and reconnect after a long workweek.

Drum Circles have been used around the world, known for their amazing power to relax and energize. The repetitive rhythms of a Drum Circle allow brain patterns to shift from Beta waves to Alpha waves, allowing the mind to rest. Drum Circles are also a way to come together with your community.

The sessions at Bishop’s Lodge begin with a ceremonial sage using to clear the energy and invite positive spirits.

The Drum Circle is open to all ages, and does not require prior musical knowledge or experience.

Recycled home furniture on exhibit

An art exhibit entitled “Upcycled, Repurposed, and Post-Industrial” asks people for their plastic bags. The exhibit, created by artist and designer Beth Rekow Olsen, featured furniture created by recycled goods.

The new space at 54 ½ East San Francisco Street, Suite 7, in Santa Fe shows Olsen’s wood, chrome, woven, light, and 100% recycled designs.

The exhibit opening is 5pm to 7pm on July 29th. Visitors are asked to bring their plastic grocery bags to contribute to one of the pieces on display; a giant “pouf” shaped kidney.
